The Teacher fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by guiding, inspiring, and educating students in a loving, Christ‑centered environment. The Teacher reports to the principal and is responsible for carrying out school and Archdiocese of San Antonio policies related to the classroom, student and parent interactions.
Position Responsibilities- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Supports and adheres to the policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese of San Antonio, including the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
- Adheres to safety training and protocols daily and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well‑being of self and others
- Protects the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service, including client names, donor gifts, investigation results, and financial information
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy
- Approaches interactions and assignments with a solution‑oriented mindset and promotes teamwork and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the school’s curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation as required
- Prepare lessons that accommodate differences in student learning styles
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, Department of Catholic Schools, and administrative regulations
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect students’ learning styles and needs
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
- Work with other staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to DCS requirements
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aides and volunteers
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the principal
- Be a positive role model and support the mission of Catholic education
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials as required
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills
- Stay informed of and comply with Department of Catholic School regulations and policies for classroom teachers
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
Minimum Qualifications Education
- A Bachelor’s degree
- 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate, as outlined in the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department standards
