Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Assist in the attainment of District goals by enhancing the effectiveness of the staff member to whom assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSMinimum
Education/Certification:
High school graduate and possesses other requirements that will qualify applicant for Texas Education Agency certification.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Ability to interpret and follow instructions and work effectively with minimum supervision. Work effectively with others.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS- Exhibits a positive attitude and serves as a positive role model for students and the community.
- Works cooperatively and effectively with others. Maintains self control and uses common sense.
- Reports to work on time and is absent only with good cause.
- Exhibits good judgment and shows initiative in decision making and problem solving.
- Complies with Federal and State laws and local policies/procedures.

- Effectively communicates with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Check email daily and respond within 24 hours.
- Tutor students who have fallen behind.
- Participates in instructional activities with students and teacher.
- Help teacher prepare classroom materials and display.
- Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Attend all Paraprofessional scheduled professional development training.
- Help in monitoring student on field trips.
- Assist in distribution and collection of textbooks, and/or supplies.
- Assist in preparing materials and technology for classroom.
- Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom environment.
- Assist in inventory of classroom materials.
- Provide assistance to students in specialized area such as the media center, computer lab, etc.
- Maintain confidentiality, strive to improve competencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by principal or supervisor.
Wheelchair lifts and ramps, other special needs equipment as needed, typewriter, word-processor, computers, copier machine, and other general office machines.
WORKING CONDITIONSMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students; indoor and outdoor as assigned; biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.

EVALUATIONPerformance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT180 days; salary schedule as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board and are not intended as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required.
