Salary: $60,000 to $70,000 Per Year
Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Dyslexia Specialist will conduct the dyslexia intervention program for all dyslexia students. In addition to these duties, the Dyslexia Teacher will serve the student population as a formative phonetics resource to students struggling in the areas of reading fluency and early phonetic comprehension.
- Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Special Education.
- Valid grade level (EC-6 or 4-8 Generalist) or content area certification required for select positions.
- Dyslexia Certification (preferred)
- CALT (Certified Academic Language Therapist) (preferred)
- 2+ years of teaching ELAR/Reading (preferred)
- 2+ years of Dyslexia teaching experience in a public school (preferred)
- Passion for students, especially with reading disorders
- Ability and patience to work interactively with students
- Advanced knowledge of federal and state dyslexia and reading disorder laws
- Working knowledge of individualized services for students
- Knowledge of IEP process and development & implementation
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to implement teaching curriculum software programs and instruct students on utilization
- Effective communication with all levels of students, parents, administrative staff, and campus directors
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic tests, assessments, transcripts, GPA
- Ability to transition with district, campus, department changes
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Apply knowledge of reading across developmental stages and expertise in instruction from early childhood to grade 12.
- Implement and model integrated literacy assessment and instruction with appropriate methods and resources.
- Recognize individual student strengths and needs; apply L2 acquisition knowledge to promote literacy.
- Understand theoretical foundations of literacy; plan and implement developmentally appropriate, research-based reading/literacy curriculum.
- Collaborate and communicate with educational stakeholders; lead professional development programs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and administrators to provide dyslexia accommodations and services.
- Ensure that IEPs are appropriately written and implemented.
- Regularly evaluate student progress and use findings to improve services.
- Prepare necessary time, resources, and materials to support general education teachers in meeting educational goals of dyslexia students.
- Assist campus administrator with Response to Intervention process.
- Support campus student management policies and assist with behavior management strategies for students with dyslexia.
- Maintain open communication; conduct conferences with parents, students, teachers, and administrators.
- Recommend policies to improve dyslexia program.
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Travel as required.
