Position Summary
The Tutor/Mentor (Level II) provides academic tutoring and/or writing and reading assistance, as qualified, to undergraduate UIW students individually and in groups and offers guidance to Peer Tutors as needed. This position reports to the Director, Learning Support Services.
Essential Functions- Provides academic tutoring and/or writing and reading assistance to undergraduate UIW students individually and in groups.
- Offers workshops, exam reviews, and embedded tutoring.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to Peer Tutors as needed.
- When not working directly with students, assists with other center-related tasks, such as outreach, record-keeping and resource creation, and communicates regularly with supervisor.
- Strong communication skills, to include an ability to explain concepts.
- Demonstrate a professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills, to include patience and empathy toward students who are learning.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of standard office equipment and computer software.
- Ability to adhere to office standards, to include maintaining confidentiality and engaging in responsible, ethical conduct.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employees shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Current UIW graduate student.
Required Work ExperienceAt least 6 months experience explaining concepts to students.
Preferred QualificationsFormal tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
Work Hours15-20 hours per week.
Physical DemandsNone.
Salary$18.00 per hour.
