Primary
Purpose:
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of a certified teacher.
Education/Certification:
- Associate degree or higher; preferred.
- Minimum of forty eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university; preferred.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) and passed the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test.
- Candidates must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non‑refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Ability to work well with children.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
Experience:
- One year experience working with children.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
- Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.

Working ConditionsTools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals.
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
Environment: Frequent district-wide travel; occasional statewide travel. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
