The University of Texas at San Antonio School of Communication, Language, and Culture invites applications for a tenured Professor to serve as the inaugural director of the new school for an initial term of three years (renewable).

College OverviewThe School of Communication, Language, and Culture is housed within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts (COLFA). COLFA is on an accelerated trajectory of transformation and growth fueled by reimagining the humanities, recommitting to arts education, and bolstering social science research.
School OverviewThe new School comprises more than 70 faculty, 1,000 majors, and 50 MA students. It offers six residential Bachelor of Arts degrees, two online Bachelor of Arts degrees, a certificate in Healthcare Interpreting, and two Master of Arts degrees. A new PhD program and additional certificates are currently under development. The School will house the Center for Dialogue and Deliberation and the Digital Media Lab.
The inaugural director will have a unique opportunity to influence the development of new degree programs and centers.
The School invites applications for a tenured Professor to serve as the inaugural School Director for an initial term of three years (renewable), beginning August 1, 2026. The Director will lead efforts to unite the Departments of Communication and Modern Languages and Literatures, implement long‑term goals, recruit students and faculty, develop robust curricula, foster faculty development and leadership, and build donor and alumni relations.
The course load is typically two courses per semester with two course releases annually. The Director may teach in residential, online, or hybrid modalities.
- Earned a doctorate in a discipline related to the School’s areas.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaboration across multiple disciplines.
- Experience leading an organization or academic unit, managing faculty and student mentorship during change.
- Proven record of securing external research funding and supporting faculty grant activity.
- Strong leadership and vision for an interdisciplinary program, engaging donors and alumni.
- Distinguished record of scholarship with extensive publications in a research‑intensive university.
- Outstanding record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Active research agenda maintained alongside teaching and administrative duties.
- Commitment to service activities and community outreach.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of the university’s infrastructure.
