Job Overview
Lecturer of Biology (FY27) – Texas A&M‑University‑San Antonio, Department of Natural Sciences, San Antonio, Texas. Full‑time faculty position beginning in Fall 2026 with a term‑limited one‑year appointment ending May 31, 2027.
Responsibilities- Teach the equivalent of 30 course credits per academic year (5 lecture and 5 laboratory credits). Courses include introductory biology for majors and non‑majors and upper‑division courses in the lecturer’s area of expertise.
- Participate in programmatic and departmental meetings and actively contribute to curriculum enhancement, student‑success initiatives, and recruitment activities.
- Engage in student mentorship, advising, and service activities as required by the department.
- Comply with the department’s 5/5 teaching load and contribute to the maintenance of high teaching standards.
Education and Experience
- Master’s degree (MS) in Biology with a specialization in either biomedical sciences or animal physiology/organismal ecology.
- Experience teaching introductory/foundational biology courses at the college level.
- Evidence of innovative pedagogical approaches in STEM education.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and self‑discipline skills.
Education and Experience
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in Biology in one of the required specializations.
- Experience teaching upper‑division lecture courses within the field of expertise.
- Prior involvement in mentoring or advising STEM students.
- Familiarity with learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, D2L) and instructional technology.
- Experience in course or curriculum development and commitment to departmental service.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students.
- Strong organization and time‑management skills to fulfill teaching, service, and curriculum responsibilities.
- Capacity to communicate effectively across diverse student populations.
- Commitment to student‑centered, evidence‑based instruction.
