Teaching Position at Harris County Juvenile Probation

Harris County Juvenile Probation Department is committed to the protection of the public, utilizing intervention strategies that are community-based, family-oriented, and least restrictive while emphasizing responsibility and accountability of both parent and child. Under the authority of the Juvenile Board, the Educational Services Division offers educational programs for expelled students, delinquent youth in county-operated juvenile institutions, and students on probation seeking alternatives to traditional high school settings.

Your primary objective is to facilitate a dynamic and engaging learning environment that maximizes student potential in intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. You will be responsible for managing multiple courses during each class period, ensuring that students perform at their best while fostering a supportive therapeutic environment.

Duties and responsibilities include developing and implementing lesson plans with necessary accommodations that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program, based on STAAR, for multiple grades and subjects; maintaining accurate student grades, work, and documentation related to special populations; creating a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students; working cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP);

and performing other duties as assigned.

This position involves working with challenging youth where the use of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies may be necessary to ensure the safety of both youth and staff.
