Job Description

Position Mission: The Special Education Achievement Specialist builds district capacity by advising campus leadership and delivering ongoing professional development. The role provides campus-based instructional modeling and compliance training for staff who implement IEPs and 504 plans, ensuring fidelity to instructional best practices and legal requirements. The Specialist partners with the Special Education Director to support campuses and collaborate with district teams to promote consistency and quality across the network.

The position serves as a mentor and primary point of contact to build teacher capacity and foster a culture of collaboration, equity, and accountability for students with diverse learning needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
  • Master’s Degree (Preferred)
  • Certified in Special Education by the Texas State Board of Education (Required)
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a special education teacher (Required)
  • 1–2 years of experience as a campus administrator (Preferred)
  • Ability to travel to all campuses across regions
  • Experience and knowledge of IDEA, TEA laws and regulations, and Section 504
  • Demonstrated expertise in ARD facilitation and 504 meetings
  • Understanding of the evaluation process and MTSS
  • Proficiency in planning and lesson internalization
  • Strong data interpretation and instructional decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with diverse stakeholders
  • Experience providing professional development and coaching to special education teachers and paraprofessionals
  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws, regulations, and mandates related to special education, 504, and Gifted and Talented
  • Proficiency with educational technology tools to support curriculum delivery and assessment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in curriculum design
Job Duties / Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coaching and Support: Provide coaching to school-based special education managers and staff across PreK–12, including 504 and Special Education, and support compliance across the organization.
  • Data Analysis and Improvement: Analyze MTSS, 504, and ARD data to inform campus-based support; analyze student data to inform instructional decisions and interventions; identify patterns and recommend professional development and instructional improvements; monitor ARD documentation and data collected by campus staff.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build trust with teachers, parents, and administrators; maintain productive relationships with internal departments; act as the Special Education team liaison.
  • Professional Development: Co-facilitate PD sessions on instructional strategies and compliance; provide ongoing coaching and communications to school-based staff; collaborate to resolve TEA complaints as needed.
  • Compliance and Documentation: Ensure IEPs, 504 plans, and related documentation comply with laws and regulations; participate in IEP meetings and parent conferences.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
  • Professional Growth and Development:

    • Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills; provide timely, constructive feedback and coaching; stay current on developments in special education laws and practices.
