AVID Tutor

Compensation: $14.00/per Hour Shift Type:

All 10 middle schools, Horn High School, Mesquite High School, North Mesquite High School, Poteet High School and West Mesquite High School

Mesquite Independent School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of AVID Tutor. The appointee will report directly to the AVID District Coordinator. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a college readiness program that serves 7th-12th grade students at secondary MISD campuses. Tutoring is conducted during the school day, twice a week and tutoring times vary by campus. Tutors will be assigned to a school according to the appointee's schedule and the campus needs.

AVID tutoring utilizes the Socratic Method, wherein the tutor serves as a facilitator.

Qualifications:

Minimum high school diploma or currently enrolled in a post-secondary college or university (preference is given to current college students) or recent college graduate

Responsibilities: AVID tutors support middle and high school students enrolled in the AVID elective course by facilitating AVID tutorial/study groups under the guidance of an AVID elective. Collaborate with AVID teachers, students, other teachers and the District. Facilitate the tutorial learning process using AVID guidelines and implement other AVID Knowledgeable in all academic core areas; math, science, social studies, ELAR. Establish and maintain rapport with students for the purpose of serving as a role model to students.

Allow students to assume the responsibility for their own active learning while guiding them with strategies that build independence. Maintain a professional relationship with all staff. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teaching regarding student progress and areas of concern. Participate in all required training, professional development sessions and meetings for the purpose of collaborating with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation and revision of the AVID College & Career Readiness System.
