Job Summary
Teacher – Physical Education (High School, Campus Based). 187 instructional days per year. Reports to Campus Principal. Compensation under Teacher Pay Scale. Revised: 05/13/2025.
PRIMARY PURPOSEProvide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI).
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.
- Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.
- Valid Texas Class B or A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for school bus driver. Class C license holders must obtain the class B CDL within one year of employment.
- Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non‑refundable fee (≈ $50) paid by employee.
- Knowledge of core academic subjects assigned.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.
- Instructional Strategies: Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation. Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology, accommodating individual student differences. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instruction. Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula as required. Work with staff to determine instructional goals and methods.
Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion. - Student Growth and Development: Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Be a positive role model and support the mission of the school district.
- Classroom Management and Organization: Create a classroom environment conducive to learning. Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook. Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials. Compile, maintain, and file required reports, records, and documents.
- Communication: Maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Professional Growth and Development: Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies. Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Other: Coach physical education throughout the school year, follow district safety protocols, maintain a professional demeanor and appearance, ensure compliance with the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics, and observe daily attendance and punctuality.
- Direct the work of instructional aides.
- Supervise and evaluate student behavior.
- Office equipment: personal computer, printer, calculator, multi‑line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other applicable equipment.
- Communication equipment: radio communication equipment, cellular telephone.
- Video monitoring equipment.
- Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.
- Physical Demands: Frequent – sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors; driving, traveling. Occasional – lifting moderate (15–44 lbs), carrying moderate (15–44 lbs).
- Environmental Factors: Frequent exposure to temperature extremes, humidity extremes, noise, varying illumination, vibration. Occasional exposure to biological hazards, outdoor work, work near moving objects or vehicles, uneven surfaces, work alone, prolonged or irregular hours.
