Volunteer College Engagement Lead — STEM Instructors

All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions. JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.

This is a pro-bono position.

JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.

The Program Instructors Recruitment Office Lead provides leadership, direction and planning to identify, reach out to and engage with colleges and universities of interest that could provide volunteer program instructors.

• The Program Instructors Recruitment Team Lead will work closely with the rest of the COLE Leadership team to develop and implement effective strategies for recruiting college and university students as volunteer instructors.
• Lead the College Engagement Team to source, engage with, invite to apply, screen and onboard volunteer college students interested in helping JerseySTEM as program instructors.
• Manages the handshake outreach efforts by identifying and reaching out to viable candidates.
• Collaborate with the Curriculum Team, Volunteer Program Director and other stakeholders to develop and refine the volunteer instructor training program. (This is for COLE
  300, COLE.PIO team)
• Track and report on the effectiveness of individual college student engagement strategies and adjust as needed to achieve program goals.
• Work closely with the Volunteer Program Director to ensure alignment of college engagement strategies with overall program goals and objectives.
• Provide guidance and support to the Program Instructor recruiters, including training, mentoring, and performance management.
• Mandatory Meetings:
  • Conduct/Attend virtual team meetings weekly : (Ssundays 5pm)
  • Monthly Department Heads Meetings (2nd Thursday 7:30pm)
  • Quarterly board Meeting (Last Wednesday 7:30pm)

• Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap
• Strong leadership/team building skills
• Resourceful, can-do attitude
• Experience with campus recruitment
• Outreach experience preferred
• Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others
• Comfort working in a ‘virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, Salesforce)
• Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week
