Position Description

Saint Mary's Hall anticipates hiring a full-time Montessori Assistant Teacher (classroom ages 3-5 years old) for the  school year. The Mission of Saint Mary's Hall is to prepare students for success in college and fulfillment in life.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education and teacher certification preferred
  • AMS Certification preferred
  • Experience working and/or teaching in a Montessori environment preferred
  • Experience working with young children in a classroom setting
  • Excellent classroom management skills to facilitate a safe, nurturing, and positive academic environment
Essential Functions:

Responsibilities to the General Community
  • Assist students with exercises and class activities, concentrating on small groups and individuals as necessary
  • Assist individual students when needed
  • Compile, prepare, and organize materials and the classroom for instruction and activities
  • Assist in the cleaning and storing of materials after activities
  • Reinforce all knowledge and skills taught by the Lead Teacher
  • Model proper behavior and play
  • Prepare daily snacks for students
  • Assist teachers by recording attendance and monitoring student work
  • Communicate all parent requests to the Lead Teacher promptly
  • Refer all parent concerns and queries to the Lead Teacher related to student performance and/or behavior
  • Assist teachers by sharing observations with parents with the knowledge and consent of the Lead Teacher, either during formal conference time or at any given time
  • Interact with various individuals such as teachers, administrators, staff, parent volunteers, etc.
  • Substitute as the Lead Teacher as needed
  • Escort students to other areas on campus, monitor behavior, check home materials/folders, and run errands as deemed necessary by the Lead Teacher
  • Supervise and assist students during drop-off and pick-up, in the halls, on field trips, during classroom work time, lunch, and on school grounds
  • Coordinate and/or participate in special programs or projects as assigned
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in in-service trainings as required
  • Receive and respond to inquiries and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility
  • Attend trainings, in-service, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills
  • Perform related duties as required
Additional Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the care and maintenance of an orderly environment and clean classroom materials
  • Be responsible, in collaboration with the Lead Teacher, for the safety and physical well-being of the students at all times
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to implement and promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices
  • Have an attitude of collegiality and be able to communicate effectively, positively, and collaboratively with the educational team and especially parents
  • Be able to build and foster positive, professional relationships with parents
  • Be a positive ambassador for Saint Mary's Hall in the larger community
  • Be able to meet the demands and challenges of a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate flexibility as needed
  • Possess a good working knowledge of and/or a familiarity with a variety of instructional technologies, such as Windows applications, iPad integration, interactive whiteboard, and student portfolio applications, and a willingness to implement new instructional technology initiatives
Physical Requirements And Work Environment
  • Work in a fast-paced environment, dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods
  • May occasionally work events, nights, or weekends
  • Must be able to teach, instruct, and communicate with students, parents, coworkers, visitors, and other professionals
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
