Help Students Reach Their Potential

TX-STAR Speech Language Services partners with school districts throughout Texas to connect students with specialized educational support. We are currently seeking Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments for school-based opportunities in San Antonio and other locations across Texas.

These positions are ideal for educators who are committed to increasing accessibility, promoting independence, and helping students with visual impairments participate meaningfully in their educational programs.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments, you will provide individualized instruction, consultation, and accessibility support based on each student’s visual and educational needs.

In this role, you will:

  • Complete assessments to identify students’ visual functioning, learning needs, strengths, and areas for development

  • Provide direct and consultative instruction designed for students with visual impairments

  • Adapt lessons, assignments, and instructional resources into accessible formats, including Braille and large print

  • Incorporate assistive technology, tactile materials, and other specialized learning tools

  • Implement goals, services, and accommodations outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs

  • Support instruction in functional skills and areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum as appropriate

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, related-service providers, campus staff, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Consult with families and school personnel regarding accessibility strategies and student progress

  • Help students develop greater independence, self-advocacy, and participation in school routines

  • Maintain accurate service records, progress reports, assessment information, and required documentation

Qualifications for This Position

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Current and valid Texas teaching certification

  • Texas certification as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments

  • Knowledge of assessment methods used to evaluate visual functioning and educational access

  • Familiarity with accessible instructional materials, Braille, and assistive technology

  • Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to provide individualized support for students with a range of learning and behavioral needs

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with families and school-based teams
