Purpose The Teaching and Academic Development Consultant will provide focused peer support for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars seeking to strengthen their teaching practices and teaching-related academic job materials. Working under the supervision of the Associate Director for Teaching and Academic Development, the consultant will offer individual consultations, provide feedback on selected teaching materials, support workshop preparation and delivery, and contribute to resource development for OCLD teaching and academic development initiatives.
Responsibilities- Teaching Consultations and Feedback:
Provide individual consultations and written feedback on teaching statements, teaching demonstrations, syllabi, lesson plans, and related teaching and academic job market materials. - Workshop Support:
Facilitate or co-facilitate selected workshops or programs related to evidence-based teaching and academic job preparation. - Workshop Preparation and Follow-Up:
Support workshop preparation and follow-up, including reviewing materials, preparing examples, and responding to participant questions as appropriate. - Resource Adaptation and Creation:
Adapt, update, or create handouts, templates, Canvas materials, or teaching development resources as assigned. - Team
Collaboration:
Participate in training, supervision meetings, occasional team planning conversations, and help identify common themes or recurring needs that emerge through consultations and workshops.
PhD students enrolled in at least 9 credit hours; in good academic standing with advisor approval We welcome applicants from all disciplines and backgrounds.
Strong candidates will bring:
Required Qualifications- At least two semesters of college-level teaching experience as a TA, AI, AD, instructor of record, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide constructive, supportive feedback to peers.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines within a 10-hour/week appointment.
- Collaborative orientation and comfort working with students, staff, and faculty across disciplines.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Experience facilitating or co-facilitating workshops, trainings, peer learning communities, or educational programs.
- Experience of fering constructive feedback on teaching statements, syllabi, lesson plans, teaching demonstrations, teaching portfolios, or similar materials.
- Familiarity with Canvas from an instructor, TA, or course support perspective.
- Familiarity with academic job market preparation for graduate students or postdoctoral scholars.
- Interest in educational development, graduate student professional development, inclusive teaching, or future faculty preparation.
$22.00/hour
Working ConditionsHybrid; minimum of 5 hours a week in the office 10 hours per week total Expected to start as soon as possible, no later than September 1.
