Lecturer of Chemistry

Texas A&M University - San Antonio invites applications for a full-time lecturer position in Chemistry with expertise in biochemistry and Organic Chemistry; the appointment will begin in Fall 2026. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching undergraduate chemistry courses, including lecture and laboratory components, a commitment to student-centered teaching and the use of evidence-based instructional practices in the STEM fields, experience with undergraduate mentorship, and evidence of service or professional development at their institutions.

Chemistry is the newest degree program in the Department of Natural Sciences and offers three undergraduate degrees: a BS, a BA, and a BS with teacher certification in Chemistry. As an instructional faculty member of the Chemistry program at a rapidly growing, aspirational university, faculty are expected to actively engage in chemistry curriculum development, building the chemistry program in a way that leads to ACS accreditation, student success initiatives, and recruitment activities.

Teaching responsibilities will include lecture and laboratory instruction in organic chemistry and biochemistry as well as entry-level chemistry courses. Enhancing student success in these foundational courses is a high priority for the university. The current teaching load for lecturer faculty is 5/5.

The Department of Natural Sciences aims to provide the best possible educational experiences in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, and Water Resources Sciences & Technology (WATER). Our undergraduate degree programs prepare students for entry into the workplace or graduate programs. We value hands-on, interdisciplinary experiences to provide a broad perspective in the natural sciences.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach the equivalent of 30 course credits per academic year (5/5 teaching load) in Chemistry courses, including introductory chemistry courses.
  • Attendance and participation in programmatic and departmental meetings.
  • Active participation in curriculum enhancement and development.

Required

Education and Experience:

  • A MS in Chemistry with a specialization in either biochemistry or organic chemistry.
  • Experience teaching biochemistry at the college level as instructor of record.
  • Experience teaching organic chemistry at the college level as instructor of record.
  • Experience teaching STEM recitation sections at the college level as instructor of record.
  • Experience teaching introductory/foundational chemistry courses at the college level as instructor of record.
  • Evidence of developing and implementing innovative pedagogical approaches to teaching in the STEM fields.
  • Excellent skills in interaction and communication with students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred

Education and Experience:

  • A Ph.D. in Chemistry with a specialization in either field listed above.
  • Experience teaching upper division lecture courses at a 4-year university.
  • Prior experience mentoring or advising students, particularly in STEM fields.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, D2L) and instructional technology.
  • Experience in course or curriculum development.
  • Commitment to departmental service and student engagement.

  • Ability to complete tasks and work cooperatively with others.
  • Strong self-discipline and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
