POSITION SUMMARY:
The certified special education teacher is responsible for developing and facilitating educational curricula and behavioral management programming within the classrooms. The certified special education teacher is also responsible for reviewing overall curriculum delivery ensuring innovative teaching methods to include special education.
- Oversee all services to students with special needs, and oversee all students IEP's (Individual Education Plans).
- Provide daily educational programming that is in compliance with state standards.
- Ensure behavior management program is implemented as required by contract and program guidelines.
- Coordinate the requisition and use of educational materials as needed.
- Practice classroom safety.
- Monitor equipment and inventory to ensure a safe and secure environment.
- Provide specific educational and behavioral guidelines during all classroom activities.
- Submit educational and behavioral lessons in written format to Program Director in a timely manner.
- Follow procedures to accommodate clients with special needs.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Follow daily schedule and allow for routine or scheduled changes as necessary.
- Role model appropriate behaviors for all students.
- Maintain a professional and ethical relationship with staff, students, and outside entities.
- Assist in student supervision as needed.
- Assist in the supervision of the overall delivery of curriculum and ensure that lesson plans from noncertified instructional staff are developed with program standards in mind.
- Assist with classroom walk-throughs when necessary.
- Demonstrate the ability to be objective in providing structure for students.
- Able to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
- Must be prepared to administer emergency First Aid, CPR, AED and/or Handle with Care techniques to youth and adults regardless of the time of day or hour of the shift, the size of the youth, or the staff's level of personal fatigue.
- In the event of an emergency, immediately respond (i.e. run, jump, kneel, etc.) to the scene and provide care and/or supervision to preserve the safety and wellbeing of youth and adults.
- Must be physically able to run, jump, lunge, twist, push, pull, know and apply Company approved physical intervention techniques and otherwise manage or coerce the full weight of an adolescent.
- Must be physically and mentally able to manage any youth who is uncooperative, violent, or display any other form of harmful or threatening behavior.
- Operate a motor vehicle on public roads to transport youths as required by the position.
- Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in specialty area such as education. - Valid state special education teaching license required for hire and throughout time in position.
- Appropriate business apparel.
- Ability to clearly read, write, and communicate information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Requires computer proficiency and the ability to effectively operate standard office equipment.
- Obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, AED certification and/or Handle with Care certification as required by funder.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and status as a qualified driver under the Company’s Vehicle Safety Guidebook standards.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves daily interaction at various client locations, with work schedules subject to change based on operational needs. The work environment may include noise levels ranging from mild to moderate. Essential functions of the position require extended periods of driving, exposure to varying weather conditions, and the physical ability to bend, stoop, climb, and lift up to 20 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
