Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) provides specialized educational services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The teacher works collaboratively with general education teachers, special education staff, families, and related service providers. The goal is to ensure students receive appropriate instruction, accommodations, and support to meet their academic, communication, and social-emotional goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and small-group instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Conduct assessments and track student progress toward academic and communication goals.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt curriculum and provide accommodations.
- Support the use of assistive listening devices, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other educational technology.
- Promote language, communication, and self-advocacy skills.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
- Ensure compliance with special education requirements.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to a culture of high expectations and student achievement.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience teaching students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school setting.
- Experience with inclusive classroom practices.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and communication systems.
- Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and families.
