The McNay offers a part-time paid internship in Museum Education for an undergraduate student in the San Antonio Area beginning in January 2026. Designed for San Antonio college students, this internship offers an insider experience of working with an education team and contributing to the McNay’s mission of engaging a diverse community in the discovery and enjoyment of the visual arts.

This is a 10-month internship.

The McNay Art Museum located in San Antonio, Texas, offers an array of career opportunities for passionate individuals who are eager to take part in our mission to engage a diverse community in the discovery and enjoyment of the visual arts. At our core, we strive to be San Antonio’s place of belonging and to offer our community transformational art experiences.

Built in the 1920s by artist and educator Marion Koogler McNay, the Spanish Colonial Revival residence became the site of Texas’ first modern art museum when it opened in 1954. Today, 150,000 visitors a year enjoy works by modern masters including Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, Edward Hopper, Joan Mitchell, Alice Neel, Georgia O’Keeffe, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

The 45,000-square-foot Jane & Arthur Stieren Center for Exhibitions, designed by internationally renowned French architect Jean-Paul Viguier, features major exhibitions annually. The 25 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds include sculptures by Willie Cole, Robert Indiana, Luis

The McNay’s Education Department is overseen by the Head of Education, Jenelle Esparza, and includes three (3) museum educator positions that fall under specific audiences, one seasonal internship, and a coordinator support role. This department is responsible for all educational and public events and programs in the museum including educator programs, public programs, family & community programs, and museum tours. The Education Team produces between 70-80 mission-driven programs annually that include events like Evening for Educators, Free Family Days, artist-led workshops, lectures, film screenings, K-12 student tours, and much more.

• Attendance at McNay staff and Education department meetings on weekdays.
• Attend and support museum programs, provide assistance with evaluation & debrief.
• Join and support staff communication channels.
• Contribute ideas to the Education team.
• Plan and facilitate an original museum program as a final project.

• Undergraduate students rising into junior or senior year.
• Attend college in San Antonio area.
• Academic emphasis or coursework in art, art history, art education, museum education, community leadership, or related areas of study.
• Available during the work week M-F 9am-5pm part time. This may necessitate a part-time class schedule for one semester during the internship.
• 20 hours a week per semester (approximately 200 hours per semester).
• The rate of pay is $18 per hour for 20 hours a week for 10 months.
