The Senior Academic Advisor serves as an advanced advising professional responsible for providing holistic academic advising services, managing complex student cases, and leading initiatives that support student success, retention, persistence, and timely degree completion. This position maintains an active advising caseload while serving as a subject matter expert on university policies, academic regulations, and advising best practices. The Senior Academic Advisor provides support for the Director of Advising, mentors and trains advising staff, supports assessment and continuous improvement efforts, and collaborates across departments to resolve complex student concerns.

The position contributes to strategic planning, operational effectiveness, and the development of innovative advising practices within the advising unit and UT San Antonio academic advising community that enhance the student experience and support institutional goals.

• Maintains an active advising caseload while providing advanced academic advising to students with complex academic circumstances.
• Advises students individually and/or in group settings regarding degree requirements, academic policies, course selection, registration, graduation requirements, and academic planning.
• Interprets and applies institutional policies, procedures, and academic regulations to complex student situations.
• Identifies barriers to student success and coordinates interventions through collaboration with faculty and campus partners.
• Maintains accurate advising records and monitors student academic progress.
• Serves as a resource and subject matter expert for advising staff regarding advising practices, policies, procedures, and complex student issues.
• Assists with training, and onboarding of new advisors and provides ongoing professional guidance and mentorship to advising team members.
• Assists Director with advising initiatives, operational improvements, and student success strategies.
• Provides testing and assessment feedback on student information systems as needed.
• Provides functional leadership for advising projects, committees, and work groups as assigned.
• Participates in professional development opportunities and remains current on advising best practices, university policies, and student success strategies.
• Serves on committees relevant to academic advising and student success.
• Represents UT San Antonio Academic Advising in events that may occur outside of normal work hours.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
• Five (5) years of direct academic advising experience at an institution of higher education.
• This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

• Master's Degree in Higher Education Adminstration, Student Affairs, or related field.
• Direct UT San Antonio Academic Advising experience.
• Experience mentoring, training, onboarding, or providing functional leadership to advising staff.
