Position SummaryThe Natural Gas Scheduler position is a gas scheduling position that works in parallel with CPS Energy natural gas traders, external third-party gas suppliers, and intrastate transportation pipelines. CPS Energy purchases natural gas daily for gas-fired generation plants and San Antonio's retail distribution customers. Its primary function of the role is to schedule and monitor all natural gas nominations, daily flows, imbalances, cuts, and supplier/transportation reports.
Additional responsibilities include managing CPS Energy's internal Gas Management System (ETRM) and performing the monthly gas settlement process.
- Work is performed using established procedures and working under immediate supervision.
- Coordinates with third-party natural gas suppliers to exchange detailed information to execute the timely nomination of the agreed-upon gas volumes at specified meter locations, across upstream and downstream transportation pipelines.
- Using individual pipeline guidelines, input all pertinent scheduling information into predominantly web-based gas pipeline nomination systems by various day ahead and same-day cycle deadlines each day. This entails the full utilization of all existing transportation and storage contracts.
- Captures natural gas transactions in the Gas Management System and paths the natural gas flows by respective transportation contract(s) in the proper physical sequence in the GMS daily.
- Ensures and validates that the Gas Management System's settlement information is accurate and complete each day.
- Assist in the monthly gas settlement and accounting process.
- Assists with commercial and system integrity decision-making during and after work hours to the extent necessary, including contemplating transportation, storage, line pack, and purchase options, communicating with suppliers and/or pipelines, buying gas as necessary, and executing same-day and weekend nominations as needed.
- Represents CPS Energy in daily customer interactions as well as occasional industry outings, events, and/or conferences.
- Content is moderately complex.
- Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Assist in providing gas cost estimates and actual gas cost reports to accounting.
- Assist in providing gas transaction information to support invoice processing and other reporting.
- Assist in administrative activities related to gas acquisition, gas accounting, and natural gas-related reporting.
- Assist with the coordination of gas needs for required pipeline/plant testing, inspections, and pig runs.
- Available to be on call 7 days a week for required generation changes to supply.
- Ad hoc reporting and administration which includes but is not limited to contract administration, post-analysis, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Critical analytical experience demonstrated in a similar position.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- NERC certification must be completed within 30 days of employment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Engineering OR Experience in natural gas scheduling emphasizing the Texas wholesale natural gas market.
- Experience with an ETRM is a plus.
