Join a leading provider of mission-critical electrical services in the San Antonio area as a Switchgear Technician
4. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects supporting data centers and other essential facilities. As a senior technician, you will play a key role in the installation, maintenance, testing, and commissioning of electrical power distribution equipment. The position requires up to 50% travel, including initial onboarding and training, and offers the chance to collaborate with a skilled team dedicated to quality and reliability in electrical systems.
- Lead and perform installation, service, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and operation of mission-critical data center electrical equipment.
- Review technical specifications with sales and project management teams to define project scope and ensure compliance with bid packages.
- Provide technical support and interface with service teams, factories, and clients to resolve site-related technical issues.
- Conduct QA/QC inspections of power distribution equipment and create Method of Procedures (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs).
- Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on power distribution equipment, including UPS, switch gear, batteries, monitoring equipment, and generators.
- Test and inspect low, medium, and high voltage switch gear, relay panels, transformers, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and circuit breakers.
- Examine relay settings and logic equations to confirm system operation according to design specifications.
- Prepare and submit site testing reports and inspection documentation as required by project specifications.
- Participate in specialized commissioning and testing of electrical systems.
- Respond to service calls and conduct site visits as directed, including regional travel.
- Provide regular status updates and feedback to project managers and service operations leadership.
- Other duties as assigned by Services Management.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including initial two-week onboarding and training (company-paid travel).
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; associate or bachelor's degree in electronics, electrical theory, or a related discipline highly desirable, or equivalent work experience.
- 2-5 years of experience with mission-critical electrical systems required.
- 3-5 years of field repair or customer service experience with UPS, electrical, electro-mechanical, or electronics-related equipment, or 3-5 years of mission-critical product experience required.
- Experience with electrical power distribution equipment, including UPS, switch gear, batteries, monitoring equipment, and generators.
- Knowledge of NETA standards, IEEE, and NEMA specifications for low and medium voltage switch gear.
- Hands-on experience with disassembly, inspection, repair, reassembly, and testing of low and medium voltage switch gear.
- Ability to read and interpret one-line and three-line diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
- Technical writing skills and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Project.
- Familiarity with specialized testing equipment and reporting software.
- NETA or NICET Level II or above certification highly preferred.
- NFPA 70E Low Voltage and High Voltage training preferred.
