We are seeking a Caster Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on troubleshooting support within a continuous casting operation. This role is critical to improving reliability, automation performance, and technical capability on the caster, while developing and mentoring a young electrical team.
You will serve as the technical authority for caster controls and automation
, working directly with equipment, Siemens PLC-based systems, and oscillation control logic. In addition to technical ownership, this role carries strong people leadership responsibility
, guiding and training a group of electricians with varying experience levels.
This is not a desk-only engineering role. Success requires curiosity, urgency, and comfort being in the middle of problems until they are solved.
Duties- Serve as the primary controls and automation lead for the caster operation
- Troubleshoot and optimize PLC-based control systems (Siemens environment)
- Modify and improve existing control programs to address process and reliability issues
- Provide technical leadership for oscillator controls and caster automation systems
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 8 shift electricians
, many early in their careers - Elevate troubleshooting skills and technical confidence across the electrical team
- Drive problems to resolution through structured troubleshooting and hands-on involvement
- Collaborate closely with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams
- Interface with contractors and vendors as needed to support upgrades and improvements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing throughput and uptime
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5–10+ years of relevant experience in a heavy industrial environment (steel, milling, paper, metals, etc.)
- Automation or controls experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Strong troubleshooting skills with PLC-controlled systems
