Position SummaryThe Mechanical Project Engineer will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of various engineering initiatives. This role involves overseeing the mechanical components of diverse projects to ensure they align with technical specifications, timelines, budgetary constraints, and quality benchmarks. Key duties include managing production teams, designing complex systems, conducting tests, and developing prototypes. You will collaborate with cross-functional departments to innovate mechanical systems, optimize existing designs, and propose creative engineering solutions.
CoreResponsibilities
- Conduct technical studies and engineering calculations for the setup or upgrade of mechanical systems.
- Manage the full mechanical design lifecycle, from initial concept to finalized detailed drawings.
- Sourcing competitive bids from vendors and contractors, or providing detailed cost estimates for proposed upgrades.
- Direct the activities of technicians and mechanics during system installations or modifications to ensure efficiency and timely delivery.
- Serve as the primary Project Manager on assigned capital and operational projects.
- Oversee the monitoring, commissioning, and formal handover of new mechanical systems.
- Generate working drawings and safety/quality documentation in compliance with organizational and industry standards.
- Support the Process Engineering team in the development and rollout of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Provide proactive technical leadership and guidance on mechanical engineering best practices.
- Manage the gathering, organization, and analysis of data related to ongoing engineering work.
- Promote a safe and organized workspace by strictly adhering to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field.

Experience:
3–5 years in a manufacturing setting, with a strong preference for experience in extrusion environments
. - Technical Expertise: At least 5 years of experience specifically focused on the design or installation of mechanical systems.
- Project Management: Proven track record of leading successful, data-driven improvement initiatives and managing multiple concurrent tasks.
- Direct experience with plastics, assembly, or industrial cutting applications.
- Technical background in single screw extrusion profiles
. - Familiarity with flexible PVC, TPEs, or the pipe/wire/cable industry.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Power BI and Access).
- Lean Manufacturing certification or Six Sigma knowledge is highly desirable.
- Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping technologies is a plus.
Role is located on site near Baylor University in Waco, between Dallas and Austin. Relocation assistance available.
