The CI Intern will lead projects to improve process capability, product quality, and operational efficiency across manufacturing. This role applies Lean, Six Sigma, and data-driven problem-solving to reduce waste and improve flow and strengthen standard work. The CI Intern partners cross-functionally with Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead CI projects using DMAIC, PDCA, and A3 methodologies to reduce defects and variability.
* Map current processes (VSM), identify waste, and implement Lean countermeasures (5S, standard work, visual management, error-proofing).
* Conduct root cause analysis (Ishikawa, 5-Why, FMEA) for recurring issues in clean room and production lines.
* Build and maintain process control (SPC charts, OEE, control plans).
* Author and update SOPs, WI, and control plans; ensure alignment with ISO 9001 and internal QMS.
* Champion standardized problem-solving and coaching on CI tools across teams.
* Facilitate kaizen events and daily Gemba walks; ensure sustainment via audits and tiered accountability.
* Work with Manufacturing and Maintenance on equipment reliability and preventive maintenance (TPM).
* Coordinate with Supply Chain and Supplier Quality on incoming material quality and vendor improvement.
* Engage EHS to ensure improvements comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
* Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; willingness to learn new tools and methodologies.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
* Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines
* A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
* Prior internship or relevant experience is a plus, but not required
* Hands-on Lean Manufacturing tools experience preferred
* Ability to work in a team, follow detailed procedures, and communicate clearly.
* Availability for on-site work.
