Fire & Safety Specialist

The Fire & Life Safety Specialist will work within HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group to develop fire protection and life safety drawings for various facilities, ensuring compliance with NFPA, ICC, and other standards.

• Develop fire protection drawings for facilities such as fire suppression systems, fire alarm and detection systems, and alternate extinguishing systems in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards.
• Develop life safety drawings, including occupancy calculations, travel distances, code compliance drawings, and passive fire protection systems, in compliance with International Building & Fire Codes and other standards.
• Develop drawings using computer‑aided design software under direct supervision of other fire protection technicians or engineers.
• Perform other duties as needed.

• A minimum of 2 years of fire & life safety design experience in systems design or regulatory enforcement.
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering consulting firm or in a role specifically related to fire & life safety.

• Associate degree in a closely related field or a high‑school diploma with a combination of education and relevant experience.
• Entry‑level NFPA, ICC certifications or other specialized credentials related to fire & life safety.
• Strong computer skills using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Specialty software experience needed to perform designs specific to the area of expertise.
