About HDR

At HDR, we specialize in engineering, architecture, environmental and construction services. While we are most well‑known for adding beauty and structure to communities through high-performance buildings and smart infrastructure, we provide much more than that. We create an unshakable foundation for progress because our multidisciplinary teams also include scientists, economists, builders, analysts and artists, reinforcing that diversity is our greatest strength.

We believe electricity powers modern life. As part of our Power sector, you’ll help shape how electricity is generated, transmitted and delivered as global energy demands grow. From massive data centers to modernizing transmission systems, our industry‑recognized engineers and scientists have been at the forefront of grid transformation for more than a century. You’ll work side‑by‑side with these experts and contribute to reliable, resilient and sustainable power systems, helping communities thrive and industries expand.

HDR Engineering is currently seeking multiple Power Delivery Team Leads to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Texas. Our priority location is Houston; however, we are seeking talented professionals interested in working in Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and El Paso offices.

Primary Responsibilities

As part of a well‑established Power Delivery practice in Texas, this is an excellent opportunity to take your career to the next level. You will build and lead your own team of Power Delivery (Substation, Transmission and Distribution) design professionals while managing complex Power Delivery projects in Texas and beyond. You will likely have prior experience providing project management and technical leadership on small/medium Power Delivery projects.

You are now ready to take‑on a broader role including overseeing all aspects of larger and more complex Power Delivery projects, frequent client‑facing and relationship building, and providing operational support to a Power Delivery team. Equally important, you will have the desire and drive to grow a high‑performing team to help execute these projects.

  • Establish the primary local Power Delivery relationship with one or more local, strategic clients, including overseeing execution of projects, driving quality and delivery for that client, technical leadership, marketing new opportunities, and profitability to achieve business objectives.
  • Manage and lead Power Delivery projects throughout the entire project life cycle, including scope and/or proposal development, project team development and assignment, project execution, project closeout, quality control, schedule, and budget management. Initially, focusing on substation projects and expanding to transmission and distribution projects in the future.
  • Work independently and/or direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EITs, Designers, CADD Technicians and administrative staff.
  • Lead the QA/QC process on projects per HDR’s Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements with a commitment to delivering world‑class quality.
  • At times, be responsible for overseeing non‑engineering components of projects, including public involvement, environmental permitting, right of way acquisition, construction management, and other services.
  • Build, develop and supervise a local Power Delivery team and oversee workload, quality, utilization, team morale, training, and performing annual performance reviews of team members.
  • Leverage existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world‑class services to clients in the Texas region.
  • Collaborate with team members across the region and nationally and balance staff workload, quality, utilization, team morale, and training.
  • Establish a network of relationships with technical peers in other offices and leverage those relationships and resources for work‑sharing opportunities.
  • Coordinate with marketing and technical leadership in support of business development opportunities.
  • Support, lead and engage in broader business development activities for new opportunities with existing and target clients in the region.
  • At times, travel for business development and project execution purposes.
