JOB SUMMARY

Poznecki-Camarillo is a mid-sized firm that has successfully tackled projects with increasing size, complexity, and range of services. Founded in 1981 as a land surveying and engineering firm, we have consistently and carefully added new services and staff as needed. In addition to our flourishing surveying and civil engineering departments, over the last decade we have developed bustling public involvement and environmental practices.

This role is designed for individuals beginning their professional surveying career and interested in progressing toward Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) certification and ultimately becoming a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS).

The position supports the surveying department in both field and office operations related to surveying and mapping projects. Working under the supervision of a licensed surveyor, this position assists with data collection, survey calculations, preparation of survey drawings, and research of land records.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assist with field surveying activities including boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys.
  • Operate surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, data collectors, and digital levels.
  • Collect and process survey field data under the supervision of a licensed surveyor.
  • Perform basic survey calculations and data adjustments to support project accuracy.
  • Prepare survey drawings, plats, and exhibits using CAD or survey software.
  • Assist with researching deeds, plats, easements, and public land records.
  • Support preparation of legal descriptions and survey reports.
  • Coordinate with field crews, engineers, and project managers to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate field notes and documentation of survey activities.
  • Follow company safety procedures and applicable industry standards.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in surveying, engineering, mathematics, forestry, or related technical field.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Must meet the Texas education requirements to sit for the Surveyor-in-Training (SIT) exam, including completion of 32 semester hours of approved coursework.
  • Basic knowledge of surveying and mapping principles and practices.
  • Ability to learn and operate modern surveying equipment and technology.
  • Familiarity with basic survey calculations and mapping concepts.
  • Ability to work both outdoors in field environments and indoors in an office setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or on a daily basis as changes occur in project need.
  • Effective communication and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Able to pass a background check.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
  • 2+ years’ experience in surveying and mapping.
  • Experience with CAD or survey software such as Open Roads/Micro Station, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with GPS/GNSS surveying techniques and data processing. Experience with UVA, LiDAR, and Geospatial workflow equipment
  • Previous experience in TxDOT (or other DOT) consulting engineering projects
  • Experience with collaboration software (Project Wise, Bluebeam, etc.)

Working conditions are primarily in a mixed office and home-based setting with occasional requirements to operate a company vehicle and perform site visits.
