Summary We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to serve as the technical authority for integrated control systems across our Aerial Work Platform (AWP) product line. This role leads the design and integration of complex systems that combine hydraulic, electrical, and embedded controls. Based in San Antonio, you will play a key role in establishing and scaling a new North American engineering center, collaborating closely with global teams to drive product innovation and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities Controls System Leadership- Lead development of integrated control strategies for boom and scissor lift platforms
- Define end-to-end control architectures, including sensors, actuators, controllers, CAN networks and communication protocols, functional logic and safety systems
- Design and validate control algorithms for proportional valves, motor drives, pumps, load sensing, stabilization systems, operator interfaces
- Ensure seamless interaction between hydraulics, electrical hardware, and embedded software
- Develop system models, schematics, signal maps, and control diagrams
- Define control strategies for flow, pressure, and valve logic, dynamic response and machine stability
- Partner with software teams on sensor selection, network architecture, connector design, and communication protocols
- Ensure systems meet performance, safety, efficiency, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with ANSI, CSA, CE, ISO, and relevant electrical/hydraulic standards
- Lead DFMEA, functional safety reviews, and network robustness assessments
- Develop control specifications, validation plans, and technical documentation
- Drive root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and system performance improvements
- Support prototype builds, system commissioning, and functional bring-up
- Execute validation testing including functional and duty-cycle testing, communication robustness and fault handling, hydraulic response and stability verification
- Tune control parameters and calibrate sensors across full operating conditions
- Collaborate with software, structures, powertrain, vehicle integration, and test teams
- Support product development programs from concept through validation
- Partner with current product engineering on field issues and manufacturing engineering on production readiness and serviceability
- Serve as the SME for electro-hydraulic control systems
- Mentor engineers in controls, diagnostics, and system safety design
- Establish best practices in design standards and simulation models, diagnostic strategies and continuous improvement
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Controls Engineering
- 7+ years experience in control systems for AWP or mobile/off-highway equipment
- Strong expertise in electro-hydraulic systems and proportional control
- Electrical systems (sensors, CANbus, wiring, controllers, batteries)
- Experience with global standards (ANSI, CSA, CE, ISO)
- Hands‑on experience with prototyping, commissioning, and validation
- Proficiency with modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, Automation Studio)
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills
- Knowledge of DFM/DFA and manufacturing processes
- Experience with NX and Teamcenter
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Systems‑level thinking and engineering judgment
- Strong cross‑functional leadership and communication
- Ability to lead technical reviews and integration efforts
- Continuous improvement mindset
