We are currently recruiting for a STRUCTURAL STEEL ESTIMATOR for our Edmonton, AB client.

Role Summary

IN DEMAND Recruitment is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator with 10+ years of estimating expertise in the Structural Steel Industry. You will prepare lump sum, unit price and cost plus estimates for a broad range of projects. You will also be responsible for delivering projects of varying sizes and compatibility. You are directly responsible for the Request for Quotation process.

Responsibilities
  • Develop complete estimates on selected projects consisting of project site visit, quantity take-off, pricing, and presentation of the estimate for management review.
  • Implement and maintain systems and procedures in relation to estimating.
  • Analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare bid estimates for projects, supports the presentation of estimate proposals.
  • Interpret historical data and statistics to prepare conceptual estimates.
  • Prepare and present research and cost data to management team.
  • Develop a bid strategy, plan out project schedule/execution, complete estimates and proposals, and present to management.
  • Complete proposals in their entirety utilizing templates provided as a starting point.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively (both verbally or written) with the project teams, all levels of management, clients, and industry contacts.
  • Additional and alternative duties that may be changed from time-to-time by the Employer.
  • Prepare estimates of labour and material costs.
  • Follow up with clients regarding estimates/quotes.
  • Updates client through client accepted / sponsored software.
  • Analyze production specifications and construction data and performs mathematical calculations to determine material, tools, and human resource requirements for the schedule.
  • May prepare lists of required materials, tools, and equipment.
  • May prepare purchase orders to obtain materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Coordinate between shop, site contractors and clients.
  • Prepare bill of material.
  • Prepare and maintain directory of suppliers and contractors.
  • Estimate pre‑contract costs.
  • Advise on tendering procedures.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems.
  • Monitor and adjust contract expenditures.
  • Assist the Project Manager with administrative duties.
  • Coordinate the project in all matters related to the project content.
  • Implement the agreed action plan to the agreed standards and deadlines.
  • Ensure the effective preparation and delivery of all project events, meetings and production of all necessary documentation.
  • Takes responsibility for the effective flow of information between team members and participants in project activities.
  • Resolve coordination issues and problems that develop during the project. Those that cannot be resolved are elevated to Project Manager.
  • Update, report and analyze on the progress of the project.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Completion of post‑secondary education with a diploma or degree related to Construction Management, Estimating, Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
  • Project Construction Management an asset.
  • Membership in the Professional Corporation for Estimators an asset.
  • Professional Certificate (PMP) an asset.
  • 10+ years of related estimating experience required.
  • Knowledge of modern construction practices, techniques and equipment.
  • An understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess the level of completeness.
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop a project schedule.
  • Strong computer background including experience with MS Office – Excel, Word, MS Projects, Primavera, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge with StruM.I.S. as asset.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willing to promote teamwork by motivating, coaching and guiding others.
  • Ability to problem‑solve, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in a time‑sensitive environment.
