Overview

ADC (Amazon Dedicated Cloud) Field Engineering provides engineering support to the data center operations personnel at sites supporting the U.S. intelligence community. As a Field Engineer, you will lead projects to fit out our data centers to meet evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper‑scale.

Candidate Profile
  • Possess strong engineering judgement and are able to provide recommendations despite uncertainty/ambiguity.
  • Are detail and data oriented.
  • Have experience solving problems with engineered solutions.
  • Have experience managing engineering projects and consultants.
  • Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Controls, Construction, Design, Commissioning, Product Managers, Technical Program Managers).
  • Are adaptable and inclined to get into the field to see things up close.
  • Are excited about a mix of office and field work.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform design and equipment submittal review for new data centers in the region.
  • Troubleshoot, conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and create corrective action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
  • Support operational issues with ad‑hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, critical equipment, and event support.
  • Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design‑solutions that add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
  • Interface with internal data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Initiate and lead engineering site audits within Amazon’s owned or colo data centers, producing reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation.
  • Act as resident engineer during new construction projects, supporting construction, commissioning, and turnover.
Qualifications
  • NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning‑specific education courses.
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission‑critical facilities, especially data centers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience problem solving and root cause analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for the region.
  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems.
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
  • Experience using a variety of web‑based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
  • Experience in commissioning.
Other Requirements
  • Must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable personal transportation by start date.
  • The selected candidate must be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.
Location & Compensation

USA, TX, San Antonio – $96,600.00 – $ USD annually.

Base salary range is listed below. The Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
