Job Description We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Service Engineer to serve as our Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (EI&C) Specialist. In this role, you will join our North American technical support team and become the technical backbone for our advanced testing and assembly equipment.
This is a dynamic, hands-on position designed for a self-starting engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, small-company environment. When you are not traveling to solve complex issues at customer sites, you will be based out of our San Antonio, Texas office and demonstration facility, collaborating with team members and mastering our product lines.
- High-Impact Ownership:
Enjoy autonomy and minimal supervision, allowing you to take full initiative, multitask, and directly influence customer satisfaction. - Technical Challenge:
Work with cutting-edge industrial automation technologies, including Beckhoff PLCs, advanced HMI systems, and specialized drive programming. - Global & Regional Exposure:
Blend a steady home-base routine in San Antonio with regular regional travel (20-30%) across North America (primarily Central & Eastern zones), alongside occasional training or machine acceptance trips to our factories in Germany and Mexico.
Act as the primary technical link with the factory for all aspects of product support.
Lead equipment installations, customer training, technical support, upgrades, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Maintain proactive communication with customers to ensure timely resolution, ownership, and comprehensive follow-up of all service cases and on-site assessments.
Conduct pre-sales equipment demonstrations and provide application and process support for both potential and existing customers.
Collaboration:
Assist factory product managers with new documentation, software testing, quality reviews, and product enhancements.
Diagnose and resolve complex field issues using root cause analysis (RCA) across electrical, mechanical, and PLC systems—specifically Beckhoff (Siemens and Schneider experience is a plus).
Read, analyze, and interpret complex electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic drawings and schematics.
Execute multi-day customer site visits across North America (primarily Central & Eastern zones). Requires adaptability to schedule changes and occasional weekend travel.
Travel occasionally to factories in Germany and Mexico for specialized training or machine acceptance support.
Skills:
Demonstrate strong time management and effective communication skills when resolving critical customer issues.
B.S., A.S., or relevant technical experience. A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Mechatronics Engineering is a plus (recent graduates, please provide a transcript).
3 to 5 years of proven experience supporting capital/testing equipment, preferably within electronics manufacturing, assembly, or related industrial automation sectors. Candidates with strong aptitude and fewer years of experience will be considered.
Specific industry experience in Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls (EI&C) Engineering is highly ideal.
Skills:
Proficiency in PLC programming (ladder logic, function block, structured text), specifically with Beckhoff Twincat 2 and 3. Siemens, Schneider or Allen-Bradley experience is a plus.
Hands-on experience with HMIs (Factory Talk Machine Edition, Wonderware), drive programming (Power Flex, ABB), and familiarity with Ether Net/IP networking.
Solid understanding of industrial robotics principles and mechanical architecture. Preferred hands-on experience or familiarity with Staubli, Mitsubishi, or KUKA robotic systems is highly advantageous.
Confident, hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to resolve field issues quickly and efficiently. Strong logic and problem-solving capabilities are required.
Proven ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic schematics. Experience designing and building electrical systems and control panels is a plus.
Experience with Vision Systems (Keyence, Cognex) and Robotics (Staubli, Mitsubishi) is highly desirable.
Willingness to travel 50-70% of the time for customer site visits. When not traveling, you are expected to work out of our San Antonio office and demo facility.
