Our Traffic Engineering team designs traffic signals, signs, pavement markings, flashing beacons, and roadway lighting while leveraging data and technology to improve mobility throughout 12 counties. Annual Salary Ranges

  • Transportation Engineer Specialist I (B18): $45,521- $71,055
  • Transportation Engineer Specialist II (B19): $48,244- $76,028
  • Transportation Engineer Specialist III (B20): $51,158- $81,351

This position is for a Transportation Engineer Specialist I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques; trains and reviews the work of others; others. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. May serve as lead worker. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives.

Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

  • Performs advanced and specialized design work.
  • Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.
  • Performs traffic engineering design work, analyzes traffic and accident data and recommends solutions for traffic problems.
  • Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
  • Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

In addition to the duties listed above

  • Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.
  • Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design.

  • Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
