Design, develop, integrate, and support electromechanical systems for detention and correctional facilities. Responsibilities include working with high- and low-voltage electrical systems, motor controls, electronic security systems, and control system integration.
Responsibilities:- Design electrical/electronic control systems using AutoCAD and other electronics control system configuration software.
- Validate existing electrical designs and specifications.
- Standardize legacy electrical schematics across multiple product brands.
- Determine system specifications for submittal and approval.
- Select parts and materials for purchase and fabrication of systems.
- Coordinate processes and drawings using AutoCAD.
- Ensure system compatibility with existing systems to prevent overloads (data/power).
- Collaborate with Project Coordination, Customer Service, and other departments to ensure compliance with design specifications and requests for changes.
- Estimate the time and cost of engineering projects.
- Perform quality control checks to verify tolerances and ensure products meet specifications, using various inspection and testing equipment such as volt meters and network testers.
- Assist Mechanical Engineers as needed.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to electrical, electronic, and electromechanical systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Ability to produce engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications for electrical and control systems.
- Ability to design and troubleshoot relay logic and PLC-based control systems, including sequencing, interlocks, motor controls, safety circuits, and field I/O integration.
- Experience with high- and low-voltage electrical systems, power distribution, and motor control systems.
- Ability to perform component-to-system level design and integrate electrical, electronic, mechanical, and control system components.
- Working knowledge of the AutoCAD design suite software. (ACAD Electrical is a plus.)
- Ability to analyze existing HMI/GUI applications, identify functional deficiencies, and collaborate with software developers to resolve user interface and system integration issues.
- Understanding of network topologies, cabling mediums, routing and switching hardware, and applicable industry standards.
- Knowledge of systems including access control, electronic locking systems, intercom and paging (digital and analog), and video surveillance (digital and analog).
- Familiarity with UL, NEC, NFPA, and the ability to interpret national codes and standards.
- Knowledge of construction, architectural, and engineering terminology.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and the ability to troubleshoot basic system configuration issues, including IP addressing, Remote Desktop connections, software installation, and configuration.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office software, particularly Word and Excel.
- Strong reasoning and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, with engineering, manufacturing, project coordination, customer service, customers, vendors, and outside agencies.
- Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and priorities.
- Ability to estimate engineering project time and resources.
- Ability to document engineering work clearly and accurately.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 5% in and out of state for engineering site surveys, troubleshooting, commissioning, and acceptance testing.
- Experience with Solid Works 3D and Solid Works Electrical.
- Experience with PLC-based programming and controls.
- Electronic security industry certifications are a plus (Access Control, CCTV/Video Surveillance, Intercom, Electronic Security Systems, etc.).
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Five years of engineering experience preferred.
- Ability to understand all verbal and written communication for production and emergency instructions.
