Role Overview

The EHS Specialist will drive the day-to-day implementation and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health and Safety programs at our San Antonio facility.

This is a hands-on role suited to an EHS professional who is comfortable working independently in a research laboratory and scientific manufacturing environment. You will bring experience supporting laboratory, research, life sciences, or similarly regulated scientific operations.

The EHS Specialist will be responsible for building a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental and occupational health and safety requirements. The role covers chemical safety and hygiene, hazardous waste management, environmental compliance, emergency preparedness, incident investigation, and employee EHS training. The role partners closely with the site's Biosafety Specialist on any overlapping hazards.

Key Responsibilities EHS Program Management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs, policies, procedures, and standards for the San Antonio facilities.
  • Serve as Flyttr’s US primary subject matter expert for environmental, health, and occupational safety matters.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and other federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Establish EHS objectives, metrics, and reporting processes to monitor performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct routine workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses.
  • Partner with site leadership, laboratory teams, engineering, facilities, and other functions to integrate EHS considerations into daily operations.
  • Partner with Flyttr's Biosafety Compliance Officer to ensure coordinated coverage of chemical and biological hazards, including joint incident response where applicable.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture where employees understand their responsibilities and feel empowered to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Support other Flyttr sites within the US with EHS support as required.
Laboratory & Chemical Safety
  • Develop and maintain laboratory and chemical safety programs appropriate for scientific and technical operations with the support of the Biosafety Compliance Officer.
  • Ensure the site has appropriate Chemical Hygiene Plan and applicable laboratory safety requirements, support and maintain these.
  • Oversee chemical inventory management, Hazard Communication, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical labeling, storage, segregation, and disposal practices.
  • Conduct laboratory risk assessments and support the safe introduction of new chemicals, processes, equipment, and experimental activities.
  • Establish appropriate PPE requirements and safe work practices based on documented hazard assessments.
  • Provide guidance to laboratory and technical employees on chemical, physical, biological, and other workplace hazards.
