Overview:
The Utility Designer is responsible for providing technical design support for utility layout and coordination on residential and commercial land development projects. This role works closely with engineers and project managers to prepare construction drawings, exhibits, and permit applications for various utility systems, including electric and gas distribution.
Responsibilities- Prepare and revise utility design drawings, exhibits, and construction documents from redlines and engineering input, in alignment with company standards.
- Utilize ArcGIS to support the creation, editing, and analysis of spatial data related to utility layouts.
- Coordinate with project teams to produce electric and gas distribution designs that meet project requirements, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Apply internal QA/QC procedures and external agency checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Interpret sketches, notes, and field data to plan and execute efficient, constructible utility layouts.
- Track and communicate project progress to project managers and request new assignments as needed.
- Maintain an organized and accessible work area to support collaboration across project teams.
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to evolving project needs and reassignment across teams.
- Submit utility permit applications and coordinate with relevant agencies as required.
- Associate degree in Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Prior experience supporting utility design, construction, or maintenance in a consulting or engineering environment preferred.
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS for mapping and data analysis; electric and gas distribution design standards; civil construction drawings and utility coordination; and asset/resource management tools (e.g., ARM or similar)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) for reporting, coordination, and communication.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Flexible and able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities and deadlines.
- Availability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime as needed.
