Baker Engineering and Risk Consultants, Inc. (Baker Risk®) is one of the world’s leading explosion analysis, structural design, and risk management companies. Baker Risk provides comprehensive consulting, engineering, laboratory, and full-scale facility testing services to government agencies and private companies who are involved with hazardous operations or materials.
Our Materials engineering staff works closely with industrial clients to identify potential explosion hazards in their facilities, develop credible and worst case scenarios, and evaluate the consequences of accidental explosions and recommend prevention, mitigation, and protective measure to reduce the risks to personnel and other assets. Our materials engineers come from a variety of engineering backgrounds but commonly are experienced standard metallurgical lab equipment, polishing practices, optical microscopes, material testing and inspection techniques.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Designed to gain technical skills and work practices in engineering environment.
- Uses application of standard engineering/scientific techniques, procedures and criteria as assigned by technical staff.
- Performs work that is routinely needed, including assisting with performing life assessment, fitness-for-service assessments, risk evaluations, initiating promotional activities, performing laboratory testing as needed.
Requirements :
- Must be a junior currently obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in metallurgical or mechanical engineering with a materials emphasis with a GPA 3.0 or higher.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Ability to learn engineering software as needed and to perform specific tasks as assigned by engineers.
- Ability to take instruction, ask questions in effort to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required to interact with internal and external contacts.
- Establish priorities for completion of the assigned workload, which may change from day to day.

EXPERIENCE GAINED
- Understanding of materials engineering and failure analysis.
- Materials characterization (optical and electron microscopes).
- Experience assisting with delivering support to clients.
- Contribute to draft reports, proposals, and presentations.
- Developing a research project on a materials-related topic.
- Working on multiple projects and proposals for a variety of project managers.
