Role Overview
As the on-site HVAC project leader, you will plan, execute, and complete control systems projects for assigned customers. You will manage technical execution, customer communication, subcontractor coordination, and project financial performance from kickoff through closeout. Success in this role means delivering projects on schedule, within scope, and with a strong balance between customer satisfaction and financial results.
Key Responsibilities- Lead assigned control systems projects from planning through closeout, including hardware design, system programming, installation coordination, system and network commissioning, and warranty follow-up.
- Own project financial results by managing costs, billings, collections, and profitability while pursuing change orders to capture approved scope changes.
- Coordinate communication with customers throughout all project phases and communicate technical and business issues clearly and professionally.
- Direct subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative support as needed to keep work moving accurately and efficiently.
- Manage material selection, ordering, budget, and delivery schedules for assigned projects.
- Secure pricing and availability from vendors and subcontractors, including scope, terms, and conditions, and oversee subcontractor payment and billing processes.
- Coordinate jobsite panel and field device locations and ensure installation aligns with Johnson Controls literature and project requirements.
- Complete controller loading, device verification, commissioning, as-built documentation, and system validation to confirm proper operation.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical support to System Technicians, Electrical Installers, System Designers, and subcontractors.
- Deliver site-specific training for owners and operators and ensure project closeout documentation, manuals, and warranty communication are completed properly.
- Maintain long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors and participate in job progress meetings as needed.
- Report project status to management and provide monthly forecasts for revenue, costs, and gross margin.
Review contractual scope carefully, identify change-order opportunities, and respond to client bulletins, field directives, and scheduling changes with sound judgment. Stay close to the work at the jobsite, remove obstacles quickly, and keep the customer informed with timely, direct communication. Manage project execution with a strong focus on safety, integrity, and accountability from planning through warranty closeout. Use disciplined follow-through to improve every day through candid problem-solving, accurate documentation, and consistent cost control.
Collaborate with technicians, designers, subcontractors, and project engineers as one team to deliver cost-effective solutions that meet customer expectations. Track billing, cash flow, and project cost activity closely so work is completed on time, within budget, and within scope. Provide practical coaching and technical support that helps others execute delegated work accurately and professionally.
- 6 years of related field experience in the HVAC/Controls industry or similar Building Automation Systems, with System Design or System Engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Hands‑on technical experience in systems design and commissioning of digital HVAC controls systems.
