Position SummaryTheatre technicians provide technical production support and assist in the preparation of performance spaces for the Theatre Arts Department’s production season.
This applicant pool will remain online and be used to hire interested UIW students as the need arises.
This is a student position open to current UIW students who may be hired through the Federal Work-Study Program or student employment.
Essential FunctionsEssential functions include:
- Fabricate theatrical scenery.
- Provide technical production support in the areas of theatrical lighting, audio, stage properties, scenic fabrication, and/or scenic art.
- Train and provide mentorship to less experienced co-workers and students.
- Assist with maintenance, organization, and housekeeping of theatre facilities and equipment.
- Maintain a safe working environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific duties will vary with the needs of production and the employee’s skill level.

- Ability to operate and maintain equipment, materials, tools, and supplies used in technical production.
- Knowledge of the theatrical production process.
- Ability to think critically, show initiative, follow directions, and work well with others.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment which is alive with creative challenges.
- Ability to troubleshoot and creatively solve problems.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA
Current UIW student approved and eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study program.
Required Work Experience- Prior experience working with lighting, audio, stage properties, scenic fabrication, and/or scenic art in a theatrical or similar live entertainment setting.
- Work performed in an educational or volunteer setting will be considered.
- Previous experience fulfilling the essential functions of this position.
- Successful completion of Theatre Practicum ( THAR 1191, 2192, or 2193) and/or Introduction to Technical Production ( THAR 2360) at UIW

Work Hours- Most work will happen between 10am and 6pm Monday through Friday.
- Some nights and weekends will be required.
- This position is limited to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
- Climb ladders and scaffolding.
- Work at heights up to 30 feet.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Work in tight spaces.
- Stand for long periods of time.
- Closed-toe shoes are required while working. Other personal protective equipment may be required from time to time. On the job safety training is provided.
