Job Title:

Banking Operations Director

This position is an on-site assignment (preferred) at our San Antonio headquarters.

Summary

The Banking Operations role supports the operational and financial integrity of the bank's Fintech and Sponsor Banking division. This position is housed within the Banking Operations team and is responsible for executing reconciliation processes, analyzing transaction activity, invoicing, supporting operational controls, and ensuring accurate financial flows across fintech partner programs and other strategic accounts. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate across Accounting, Operations, BSA/AML, Technology, and Partner Management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations for deposit, loan, payment, and settlement accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve operational and financial discrepancies across internal systems and external partners.
  • Prepare operational journal entry recommendations and partner with Accounting on month-end close.
  • Support operational oversight of fintech partner programs, including transaction monitoring, fee validation, and settlement accuracy.
  • Maintain documentation of operational workflows, controls, and reconciliation procedures.
  • Prepare invoicing procedures and distribute monthly invoices/settlements for fintech partners.
  • Participate in audits, exams, and internal control testing related to sponsor banking.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reconciliation processes, automation, and data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new partner onboarding and operational readiness.
  • Carry out responsibilities in a manner consistent with our values and operating principles, in accordance with policy and applicable laws, and with a commitment to continuous improvement and process excellence.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
Key Deliverables
  • Accurate and timely completion of all daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations, with prompt investigation and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Reliable month-end support, including well-documented journal entry recommendations and coordination with Accounting to ensure financial accuracy.
  • On-time, accurate fintech partner invoicing and settlements, including validation of transaction activity, fees, and settlement amounts.
  • Well-documented operational workflows, reconciliation procedures, and internal controls that support audits, exams, and risk oversight.
  • Continuous improvement of reconciliation processes, data accuracy, and automation, resulting in reduced risk, errors, and manual effort.

Qualifications Education

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field

Required Knowledge/Skills
  • 4-8 years of experience in banking, fintech, payments, or operations.
  • Strong reconciliation skills and understanding of financial and operational workflows.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and communicate findings clearly.
Desired Experiences
  • Experience in community banking and fintech/sponsor banking programs.
  • Understanding of ACH, wires, card payments, and settlement processes.
  • Familiarity with operational risk, compliance controls, and partner oversight.
  • Experience with core banking systems or data-driven operational environments.
