Position Summary
The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the accounting department, including financial reporting, payroll, banking, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role works closely with executive leadership to support financial strategy, budgeting, and organizational performance while ensuring strong internal controls and accurate financial management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the monthly close process, including journal entries, financial statements, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and review financial reports, variance analyses, and operational data.
- Ensure accurate classification of revenue and expenses in accordance with accounting standards.
- Manage and supervise accounting staff, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Ensure team productivity, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines and objectives.
- Oversee payroll processing and banking functions.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Support audits, including annual financial and 401(k) audits.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and reconciliation.
- Analyze financial performance, identifying trends and variances.
- Provide insights to support strategic decision-making.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.
- Utilize accounting systems and reporting tools to enhance efficiency.
- Partner with leadership on financial planning and strategic initiatives.
- Prepare ad hoc reports and support special projects as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (MBA or CPA preferred).
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare or similar environment.
- 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting practices.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
