Mortgage Appraisal Specialist
The Mortgage Appraisal Specialist is responsible for reviewing property valuations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting underwriting decisions. This role involves technical appraisal analysis, direct member communication, and risk identification to maintain the integrity of collateral evaluations.
The Mortgage Appraisal Specialist must have:- 3 to 5+ years of experience in appraisal review, collateral underwriting, or quality control.
- Proven ability to conduct professional outbound calls to explain appraisal results and processes.
- Strong knowledge of appraisal regulations including USPAP, FHA, VA, and GSE guidelines.
- Hands-on experience with appraisal and loan origination systems such as Collateral Underwriter and Encompass or similar platforms.
- Reviewing residential property appraisals across multiple loan products.
- Member or customer communication regarding valuation outcomes.
- Identifying discrepancies and compliance risks in appraisal reports.
- Review and validate property valuations for various loan products including conventional and government-backed loans.
- Analyze comparable sales, adjustments, and market data to ensure valuation accuracy.
- Conduct outbound communication with members to explain appraisal findings and address concerns.
- Identify deficiencies, inconsistencies, and potential risks in appraisal reports.
- Support reconsideration of value processes and resolve member inquiries.
- Provide detailed documentation and analysis to underwriting and quality control teams.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal guidelines.

Education:
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business, or a related field or equivalent experience.
