Our client, a credit union with a large commercial real estate presence in Texas, is looking for a Special Assets Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a portfolio of criticized and classified commercial loan relationships, including commercial real estate and owner‑occupied loans
- Analyze borrower financial performance, collateral values, guarantor strength, and repayment capacity to determine appropriate workout strategies
- Develop and implement loan workout plans, restructures, modifications, forbearance agreements, and exit strategies
- Negotiate directly with borrowers, guarantors, attorneys, and other stakeholders to achieve favorable resolutions
- Monitor delinquent and non‑performing loans and proactively identify emerging risks
- Recommend appropriate risk rating changes in accordance with regulatory guidance and internal credit policy
- Coordinate foreclosure actions, receiverships, bankruptcy proceedings, deeds in lieu of foreclosure, and collateral liquidation when necessary
- Oversee relationships with outside legal counsel, appraisers, environmental consultants, auction companies, and other third‑party vendors
- Review and approve borrower financial statements, collateral reports, budgets, business plans, and cash flow projections
- Prepare comprehensive credit memorandums documenting workout strategies, risk assessments, and recommended actions for approval
- Ensure accurate loan grading, impairment analysis, and reserve recommendations in accordance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory expectations
- Participate in loan review examinations and respond to internal and external auditors and regulatory agencies
- 10‑15 years of banking experience with 3‑5 years in special assets
- Experience managing criticized and classified commercial loan portfolios
- Strong background in commercial real estate and commercial credit analysis
- Experience with loan restructuring, bankruptcy, foreclosure, and collateral liquidation preferred
- Extensive knowledge of commercial credit underwriting and portfolio risk management
- Knowledge of regulatory guidance related to criticized and classified assets
- Familiarity with bankruptcy law, foreclosure processes, receiverships, and commercial collections
- Ability to negotiate complex financial transactions and workout agreements
- Strong analytical, organizational, and decision‑making skills
