This position is a member of our San Antonio regional staff.
Here’s What You’ll Be Doing- Perform and/or oversee highly advanced or specialized investigations, surveys, or studies in the field of solid waste pollution, to include industrial and hazardous waste, petroleum storage tanks, and municipal solid waste programs; document findings, compose and review technical reports and provide highly complex technical assistance for the Waste Program in the San Antonio regional office of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
- Conduct and/or oversee highly advanced solid waste and Emergency Response investigations.
- Plan, direct, and monitor Solid Waste and Emergency Response activities to assure technical and regulatory completeness and consistency.
- Coordinate investigations and reports of complaints and spill incidents in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Provide and/or assure outreach and technical assistance is provided to the public, the regulated community, media and government officials.
- Key
Qualifications:
Experience interpreting rules, regulations, policies, or procedures and interacting with the public, media and/or regulated community. - Experience QA’ing, reviewing, and editing inspections/investigations.
- Experience using Consolidated Compliance and Enforcement Data Systems (CCEDS) and/or Business Objects Enterprise (BOE).
- Experience planning, coordinating, or responding to Emergency Response events.
- Experience advising and providing feedback to management regarding programmatic activities, Emergency Response, and/or other significant issues.
Required
Education & Experience:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field; plus, six years of full-time experience in environmental activities.
- OR a master’s degree ... plus five years of required experience.
- OR a doctorate degree ... plus four years of required experience.
- OR ten years of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities.
- OR two years of full-time TCEQ experience as an Environmental Investigator IV.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Current TCEQ Employees: This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Natural Resources Specialist V state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Environmental Investigator V series.
Work ScheduleStandard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m.
- 5:00 p.m.
Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ San Antonio Region Office.
