Police Dispatcher
The Police Dispatcher is responsible for receiving, assessing, and documenting emergency and non‑emergency calls and dispatching UIW police and security officers with pertinent information to any campus or university location upon request. The Police Dispatcher reports to the University Police Lieutenant.
Note that this position requires the ability to successfully pass a physical and psychological evaluation as a condition of employment, as required by TCOLE standards.

- Receive emergency and non‑emergency calls from staff, faculty, students, and the general public requesting service.
- Prioritize incoming calls, obtain detailed information while maintaining composure, and push out the necessary information to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
- Provide service, information, and directions to the campus community and visitors for non‑emergency calls for all campus police operations.
- Enter and maintain accurate daily activity logs using radio console, telephone, fire alarm monitoring systems, and other related computer systems, including Report Exec.
- Ensure compliance with all UIW Police Department policies and guidelines.
- Check criminal records and backgrounds using the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System. Enter stolen vehicle and other information as required into the database.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Effective oral communication skills via phone and radio systems; clear, concise speaking voice and the ability to type 25 wpm.
- Ability to effectively prioritize incoming calls and relay necessary information to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
- Ability to maintain professional composure during high‑stress situations and obtain detailed information and disseminate appropriately.
- Must exercise good judgment in providing for the safety and welfare of UIW students, employees, visitors, and property.
- Must abide by attendance standards as this is a critical 24‑hour operations center.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
Required Work ExperienceSix (6) months of experience in a position that required public contact, dispatching, or related duties.
Preferred Qualifications- Some college.
- One year of job‑related experience, including experience with radio communications and computers.
- Must have a valid driver’s license or state , as required by TCOLE licensure.
- Ability to successfully pass a physical and psychological evaluation as a condition of employment, as required by TCOLE standards.
- Willingness and ability to secure a Telecommunicator License by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (requires U.S. citizenship) within one year from date of assignment.
