Position:
Military Service Coordinator (PD39669A)
- Explain benefits programs and entitlement criteria; conduct interviews; identify issues; gather evidence; input data to develop claims.
- Review service treatment records to ensure disabilities are appropriately included on VA claim forms.
- Serve as intake specialist: receive and establish compensation and pension claims; order examinations; develop claims; route for processing.
- Maintain rapport with community partners, veterans service organizations, peers, VARO staff, and veterans.
- Work independently, adapt to changing schedules and locations, handle differing opinions professionally.
- Maintain professional, positive relationships with customers and VBA partners.
- Apply laws, regulations, policies with sound judgment to ensure accurate information.
- Use office automation software (word processing, presentation, spreadsheet) to create reports, presentations, and documents.
Full Time, Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 4:30 pm. Compressed/flexible work schedule available. Telework eligible for situational (ad hoc) only; routine or recurring telework not authorized.
Requirements- U.S. citizen.
- Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- One‑year probationary period may apply.
- Background/security investigation required.
- Must complete online onboarding process if selected.
- GS‑11 level: at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑09 in the normal line of progression for this occupation. Experience must demonstrate extensive knowledge of veteran benefits, including compensation, VA regulations, and procedures.
- Education substitution:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or at least 3 full years of graduate education leading to such a degree related to the duties; or LL.M. if related. - Combination of education and experience may meet the requirement only if total 100% of duration.
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade in the past 52 weeks must have served 52 weeks at the GS‑09 level for GS‑11.
