Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing a variety of radiologic procedures of specific body areas using ionizing radiation. The technologist obtains and provides diagnostic images for a patient population, including pediatric, young adult, adult, and elderly patients.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

• Coordinate all radiologic and radiation safety procedures while under limited supervision.
• Plan, operate, execute, and document all diagnostic radiology activity.
• Offer technical communication, organization skills, and problem‑solving support to staff technologists and staff physicians.
• Prepare patients for the requested radiologic procedure, explain the procedure, remove jewelry that x‑rays cannot pass, and position the patient appropriately.
• Prevent unnecessary radiation exposure to patients, other employees, and to self.
• Practice and use ALARA principles of radiation protection including time, distance, and shielding.
• Maintain certification, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
• Assume responsibility for the operation of the assigned area including processing requisitions, staff interactions, patient flow, and accurate procedure documentation and charges.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Establish and maintain a par level of necessary supplies.

Other Functions and Responsibilities

• Proficient in operating radiologic equipment including fluoroscopy machines and portable C‑Arms.
• Thorough knowledge of radiographic principles, basic knowledge of film processors, and standard aseptic techniques.
• Work independently and without direct supervision.
• Working knowledge of computers and DICOM imaging systems.
• Strong sense of touch to find veins and start IVs.
• Recognize signs of distress and allergic reactions in patients administered non‑ionic IV contrast.
• Familiar with medications and equipment used during allergic reactions and use IV equipment safely with Universal Precautions.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent experience and training, or a combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts (discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume) and apply basic algebra and geometry.
• Practical problem‑solving ability in situations with limited standardization; interpret instructions in various formats.
• Knowledge of database software (Access), internet software, spreadsheet software (Excel), inventory software, order processing systems, Word, and Outlook.
• Minimum of two years in a clinical or hospital environment.
• Specialty experience or certifications preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Completion of a two‑year AMA accredited school of radiologic technology.
• Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and licensure by the Texas Department of Health, MRT program.
• CPR‑BLS certified.
