Responsibilities Clinical Care
- Conduct comprehensive patient histories, physical examinations, and clinical assessments for orthopedic and sports medicine patients.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests including X-rays, MRIs, and lab results.
- Develop and implement treatment plans for acute injuries, chronic musculoskeletal conditions, and post‑operative rehabilitation.
- Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state laws and collaborative agreements.
- Provide patient education on diagnosis, treatment options, preventive care, and rehabilitation programs.
- Assist supervising physicians in surgical procedures, including pre‑operative preparation, intra‑operative support, and post‑operative care.
- Manage wound closures, suturing, dressing changes, and removal of staples/sutures.
- Monitor patients in recovery and coordinate follow‑up surgical care.
- Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and other members of the care team to ensure integrated patient management.
- Facilitate referrals to specialists or ancillary services as needed.
- Maintain communication with referring providers regarding patient progress and outcomes.
- Accurately document all patient interactions, diagnoses, treatment plans, and procedures in the EMR system in a timely manner.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and all applicable state/federal healthcare regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer reviews, and continuing medical education.
- Support SMASA protocols, policies, and procedures to promote efficiency and patient satisfaction.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Texas.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred; orthopedic or sports medicine experience strongly desired.
- Experience in both outpatient and surgical settings preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi‑disciplinary environment.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, and patient‑centered care philosophy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Full‑time, onsite role with potential for extended hours based on patient load or surgical schedules.
- Work performed in clinic settings, operating rooms, and occasionally at athletic or sports events.
- Must be able to stand, walk, and assist in surgical procedures for extended periods.
