Overview
Position:
Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) assist the medical provider with physical examinations, carry out nursing treatments and perform other health care procedures according to provider's orders. Must develop working knowledge of clinic policies and procedures. The Medical Assistant must establish good public and working relationships. - Provide a standard of excellence in customer service for patients and other customers.
- Maintain timely flow of patients and patient privacy according to HIPAA requirements.
- Prepare patients for examination by the provider and assist with walking, standing or sitting as needed.
- Prepare equipment and supplies to assist the medical provider in treatment and testing of patients.
- Perform or assist with procedures (examples include EKGs, Holter monitors, stress tests, PFT, dABI, WWE, wound care, flu/strep/HCG testing, glucose checks, fit cards, unna boots, ear lavage, coaguchek, nebulizer, phlebotomy).
- Take and record vital signs; review medications.
- Prepare, organize, sterilize rooms and equipment; sterilize instruments and maintain clean, stocked patient examination rooms.
- Update patient care plans under the direction of the medical provider; manage patient charts and EMR entries.
- Assist with scheduling with specialists, procedures and DI testing; document tests and results per policies.
- Input and monitor EMR records during the exam process; administer medications and immunizations as ordered with appropriate documentation.
- Maintain inventory of medications and supplies; provide CPR if needed.
- Perform administrative tasks: relay messages between providers, patients and pharmacies; complete necessary documents and scan into the patient chart in ECW.
- Follow all Health Texas Medical Group policies, HIPAA, compliance, OSHA, and PPE guidelines.
- Assist bilingual associates as needed to translate or interpret for patients, family members, or colleagues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- One year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical environment or completion of an externship within a Health Texas clinic.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Successful completion of a recognized Medical Assistant Certification program preferred.
- CPR certification required.
- Phlebotomy/Venipuncture certificate may be required.
- Detail-oriented; strong patient service mindset; team player.
- Computer proficiency; familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Basic medical terminology; EMR skills; ability to prioritize tasks and manage workflow.
- Ability to work in a multi-tasking environment and under pressure; respectful communication with all stakeholders.
- Commitment to quality patient care, every patient, every time.
- Clinic hours vary by location; associates rotate 8-hour shifts as assigned.
- Travel to other sites may be required for training or patient needs.
Physical Requirements
Medical office/clinic environment with exposure to common clinic hazards. Regularly required to talk, hear, and use vision for patient care. Must be able to meet attendance requirements and perform essential functions. May assist in lifting patients and equipment up to 50 lbs; ability to sit/stand for extended periods as needed.
