About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and patient-centered Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant to join our ophthalmology team! This role supports physicians and clinical staff in delivering exceptional eye care by performing diagnostic testing, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with clinical procedures. The ideal candidate is organized, confident, and committed to providing a high-quality experience for every patient who walks through our doors.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct and document patient medical histories, chief complaints, and initial assessments
- Perform diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, tonometry, pachymetry, OCT, visual fields, and fundus imaging
- Prepare examination rooms, equipment, and instruments
- Assist ophthalmologists during minor procedures
- Administer eye drops, perform pupil dilation, and follow proper medication protocols under supervision
- Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, and post-procedure care
- Maintain accurate and timely charting in the electronic medical record system
- Ensure equipment cleanliness, calibration, and readiness
- Support patient flow and scheduling to maintain clinic efficiency
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in ophthalmology
- Strong interpersonal communication and patient service skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment
- COA or COT certification (JCAHPO)
- Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
- Proficiency with electronic medical record systems
- Professionalism and attention to detail
- Calm, patient-focused demeanor
- Strong technical and troubleshooting capability
- Ability to follow clinical protocols with precision
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and regulatory compliance
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Antonio, TX.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
